|
| Audiometric (Industrial Hearing) Tests (1hr.)
"Noise exposure in the work environment is one of the hazards most frequently experienced by workers. Noise induced hearing loss does not have an immediate, dramatic effect, and as a result, people do not consider it serious. People do not realize problems with their hearing until it is often too late.
Occupational Health and Safety states audiometric test should be conducted and repeated on a regular basis if workers are exposed to sound levels of 85 dBA or more (Part 16, Section 219). After the first test a baseline test should be done within 6 months, repeated by 12 months, and then every 2 years after (OH&S Part 16 Section 223). If workers have experienced hearing problems they should be sent to an audiologist for further tests. Audiometric technicians will do 7-10 minute hearing tests, as well as educate employees on correct use, and reasons why hearing protection should be worn. Our portable unit allows us to do hearing tests on site.

| Respiratory Fit Testing
Fit testing should be performed before the first occupational use of the respirator and redone semi-annually and whenever a change occurs which may affect the fit of the respirator, such as weight loss or gain of more than 10 pounds, facial scarring, certain dental procedures, etc. A fit test must be completed for each type and style of respirator used.
Fit testing should be repeated whenever the user thinks that the fit might have diminished since the last fit test. During qualitative fit testing, the tester can determine that the respirator is properly sealed against the face of the wearer. Fit testing can be scheduled during regular business hours at Safety Buzz or on site.
